Right time for Tatkal ticket booking: When and how many days in advance to book? Know the new process for 2025 and 4 important tips
Tatkal ticket is a special type of railway ticket made available for sudden or emergency travel. It literally means ‘immediate’ or ‘urgent’.
Booking Time:
- AC Class : From 10:00 AM on the day prior to train departure
- Non-AC class : From 11:00 am on the day prior to train departure
Steps for online booking:
- Login to IRCTC website 5-10 minutes before
- Fill in the trip details
- Select booking date
- Click on Submit
- Check list of trains
- Select Tatkal Quota
- Select train and class
- Fill in the passenger details
- Enter captcha
- Make Payment

Ticket Booking Rules:
- You can book tickets for up to 4 passengers
- Tatkal tickets available in all classes except 1AC
- There is no refund on cancellation of confirmed ticket

Important Note
- Only e-tickets can be booked
- Tatkal quota cannot be combined with Women/General quota
- Ticket booking is done one day before travel
